Yukon Gold

Nooooooo! Don't abandon ship... why don't you just cheat... have something you want, and then talk yourself into believing it won't have any nutritional impact to speak of? I cheated at the very beginning, remember? Plus... I had a beer on Tuesday. :( YOU CAN DO IT!

I hate this diet but it's interesting so I want to keep going!

I got a huge plate of cheesy tots with kickass spice last night at the Florida Room. I ate them again for lunch today. My poop is still orange and it's starting to smell like cheesy potatoes, plus it has an interesting pasty consistency. Like mashed potatoes.

Why would it be orange?

I think I need to eat more skins.

Russet Burbank

Oh thanks, Yukon! Those recipes all sound great. I'll totally try them out.

but I have to tell you, I don't think I'm going to make it! I am about to crack! :(

I am so hungry and miserable.

Yukon Gold

Ginny, check this out! Modified funeral potatoes:

1-lb bag of frozen hash brown potatoes
1 cup of sour cream
1 can Campbell's cream of potato soup
1 lb shredded cheddar cheese
1 TBSP minced onion or 1 chopped green onion

Mix together and put in a baking pan, top with a bunch of crushed potato chips, bake at 350 for about an hour!

Last night I made fantastic mashed potatoes: I simmered some Russet Burbanks with a clove of garlic and then added butter, salt, pepper, sour cream, and a teaspoon of minced parsley.

There is a cucumber in the fridge staring at me. I might have to throw it away.

Yoo-hoo! Burbank!

Yukon Gold

We are 1/4 of the way through! WE CAN DO IT!

Yukon Gold

All I want is a tin of smoked oysters.

Burbank, to fry mashed potatoes you just throw some butter in a pan, then make a little patty out of leftover mashed potatoes and put in the hot pan, and fry it on each side until golden. Then eat!

Potato cheese soup is just potato soup (with a milk base) and at the end, you throw in a handful of cubed cheddar.

Russet Burbank says...

The past two days (today and yesterday), I've been really tempted to quit. I thought pretty seriously about it last night. There is so much delicious food in the apartment and I can watch it be enjoyed but cannot enjoy it myself. And today school started up again, which I expect might make this a bit more challenging, being away from home for about 7 hours a day. It's not like I can just pack a potato in my bag and munch on it whenever. Still going strong though! Making it through.

I am sure that the fried content is indeed getting to me, so I'm already cutting back on the greasy stuff, and I am certainly keeping up on yogurt and cottage cheese and active cultures and all that. Hopefully my body will get comfortable with this asap and quit craving stuff.

Tell me how you go about frying mashed potatoes, please! And making potato cheese soup, too. That sounds good. We should have a dinner together at some point.

Yukon Gold

By the way, chocolate milk with vodka is DELICIOUS.

Yukon Gold ("Kalera")

I wonder if it is partly the large fried content that is getting to you? I have been eating lots of baked potatoes, potato soup, and mashed potatoes, with the occasional hash browns, and I feel pretty awesome. Alcohol has been making me feel kind of pukey so I haven't had very much of it the last few days. I'm eating a variety of potato types (Russet, Yukon Gold, and Blue) and making a point of eating the skins, which are high in iron. Don't forget your skins! Oh, the other thing I would recommend is eating lots of yogurt with live cultures, such as Nancy's. I've been eating piles and piles of homemade yogurt, and I can make you some if you like! I think it makes it a lot easier on your digestive system.

Yesterday I think I pretty much just ate baked potatoes with cheese, though in the evening I sliced a potato and baked the slices, then ate them dipped in yogurt that had garlic in it. Yummy!

Today after my tea with milk I ate baked potato slices with cheese (Yukon Gold is not the best potato type for this: too squishy! Russet Burbanks are better) and a bowl of yogurt, then some cottage cheese, then potato soup with cheddar. I also had a small cup of vodka and milk, and just now I ate a bowl of cottage cheese and am now having a bowl of yogurt. I will definitely not be lacking for calcium this month.

I am pooping like a champion.

RUSSET BURBANK checking in

I think this diet is making me very tired. I had to wonder if I had mono because I've been sleeping and tired so much. I just don't think I'm getting a lot of energy.

Last night I was supposed to go to a concert with Lk but a couple hours before the show I started feeling weird. Really weak and kind of wibbly in the stomach and head. It should be noted that yesterday I went to lunch around 3 and had tater tots and Monopolowa & milk. This was the first I had eaten all day (after sleeping a lot), and I probably shouldn't have been drinking the vodka with so little food in my system. I didn't finish the drink but I think it may have been the reason I was not feeling well later.

So I stayed home from the show, but I did end up making some really good mashed potatoes! I don't really like to cook if I can help it, but Casey convinced me that I could do it and it was easy, so he helped me a little along the way. I mashed about 5 potatoes and added garlic butter (which I also made myself!), blue cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, salt and pepper. Then I had them for (late) dinner. They were so tasty! And I have enough leftovers for maybe two more meals. And for dessert I ate vanilla yogurt and drank chocolate milk.

When I was eating tots for lunch yesterday, I was contemplating how much of the potato content of my diet is fried. And it feels very heavy in my stomach and kind of gross. So the mashers were a nice relief from that, and I think I'm going to try to be more sparing about the tots and fries and other greasy potato items.

Kalera ("Yukon Gold")

Sooo the other night I made a big thing of scalloped potatoes, and have been eating of it ever since.

But last night I went to a birthday party at a sushi place, and I slipped. :( I ate a couple of pieces of sashimi and a bite of Moxley's seaweed salad. I am so bad! I am ashamed at the way I am ruining Science. I promise I will be good for the rest of the month!

I also had some vodka, some milk, and potato chips.

Mmmmmm New Year (Kalera)

Physical status: Groggy, but good.

I was too faded from the debauchery to post yesterday, but so far, so good!

Yesterday:

Tea with milk
Plain yogurt
Hash browns
Chocolate milk
Vodka
More yogurt
Potato chips

Today so far:

Tea with milk
Hash browns
Plain yogurt
Blue cheese
Fried mashed potatoes with cheddar (yum!)

I need to go to the store because I realized that the only potatoes I have left are some hash browns and some week-old mashed potatoes!

Ginny (Russet Burbank)

Happy New Year! Yesterday the experiment officially began!
Personally, I slept until mid-afternoon following hardcore new year's festivities, but when I woke up I went grocery shopping.
Things I ate yesterday:
cottage cheese with salt & pepper (yum!)
roasted yukon gold potatoes with rosemary & olive oil
vanilla yogurt
vanilla ice cream

This morning: coffee with vanilla flavored milk
Haven't eaten yet today, but probably later will eat: baked bbq potato chips, cottage cheese, string cheese and/or colby jack, scalloped potatoes in a creamy cheese sauce.

While shopping, I picked up some blue cheese dressing to have on baked potatoes. I had thought that milk was a main ingredient in creamy salad dressings (blue cheese, ranch, etc), but I looked at a few different brands of dressing before I even found milk in the ingredients at all. The main ingredients were soybean oil and water in the others, but I did end up getting the one which contained milk (and whey).
